Unisun Energy wins construction management contract of 13.6MW AC photovoltaic solar plant in Chihuahua, Mexico
Unisun Energy Americas, a fully-owned subsidiary of Unisun Energy Group, has executed a management contract with Buenavista Renewables (BVR) to manage the construction of the Los Santos Solar I photovoltaic solar power plant located in the State of Chihuahua, Mexico (the “Project”). The Project has secured a US$31 million loan from two banks, the North American Development Bank (NADB) and the Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC) to finance the construction of the Project.<
The Project will supply renewable energy to the northern district of a leading educational network in Mexico, La Salle, as well as to German cable company, Leoni Cable, S.A. de C.V., pursuant to long-term power purchase agreements (PPA). La Salle is one of the main educational networks in Mexico, and its northern district consists of 25 institutions spread across the Mexican states of Chihuahua, Coahuila, Durango, Guerrero, Jalisco, Nuevo León, Sonora and Tamaulipas. Leoni is a global leader in the production of cables and cable systems, with factories in Mexico in the states of Chihuahua, Durango and Sonora.
The renewable energy produced by the Project, which will be maintained at a stable price over the 20-year term of the PPAs, will help La Salle and Leoni mitigate the volatility of electricity rates in Mexico, while at the same time enabling them to comply with the clean energy mandate established under the new Power Industry Law in Mexico. The Project, the first solar PPA with private sector off-takers in Mexico, will also serve as a benchmark for the Mexican solar industry, illustrating that alternative power sources can increase industrial competitiveness.
Unisun Energy Group Vice President, Mr. Hanfeng Xu, said “this is an exciting transaction in which Unisun has and will continue to play an important role. We congratulate BVR on a remarkable achievement. A benchmark project in a dynamic market, a leading example of the fine cooperation between Unisun and BVR.”
Dean Hull, CFO of BVR, stated: “BVR is excited to be able to contract Unisun to manage the construction of Los Santos Solar I project for us. Unisun is a highly professional organization that brings a wealth of experience in the construction of photovoltaic solar plants worldwide. We look forward to leveraging this experience and expertise to ensure this landmark project’s construction goes seamlessly.”
